Woman Gets Pulled Over By Cop, Prepares For The Worst - Has Incredibly Emotional Experience

Earlier this month, Ayanna Reid Cruver was simply driving back to her home in Louisiana when she saw an unwelcome sight in her rearview mirror. Cruver was being pulled over, and the daylights were promptly scared out of her. While that’s a pretty typical reaction, even Cruver acknowledges that her reaction was against the norm. Cruver is black, and she found that she was afraid for her life.

As A Plus shares, her fears would turn out to be completely unfounded, as it was just a routine traffic stop. She was driving under the speed limit, and the officer simply wanted to make sure she was ok. Cruver notes that the officer was helpful and kind, but even he picked up on how frightened she was. Her reaction really struck a chord inside of her, and she decided to share her tale in a video posted on Facebook.

"As he said that, I just broke down crying," she says in the video. "I told him I was so scared."

The chord that was struck inside of Cruver was also struck inside of others, as the video would quickly go viral.

"I knew he felt awful that I was that scared, but I was so scared," she continued. "I never thought that in that situation I would feel fearful, but I legitimately felt horrified. How awful to be stopped by the police and feel that scared."

This wasn’t just a little bit of fear that results in a racing heart and sweaty palms, as Cruver found herself so terrified that she broke down crying. The kind officer quickly picked up on what she was going through, and he reassured her that everything was going to be ok. He would even give her a hug as she left for good measure.

"It blew my mind how frightened I was that a police officer stopped me," she added. "We see the videos, and we see things on the news, and we're so far removed from it, but I just kept thinking, 'Oh my God, why is this person asking me to get out of the car?'”

There have been a number of high-profile police-involved shootings that have received extensive coverage in the media. Each and every instance leads to increasing fears, especially among the African-American community. Trust in law enforcement has fallen as a result, but hopefully Cruver’s emotional reaction will lead to some much-needed conversations.

In order for all to heal, there needs to be a lot of understanding from all sides, as well as clear understanding of the perspectives of law enforcement and the residents they are tasked with protecting. When that happens, perhaps the fears and resulting danger will begin to subside.

"The nature of the situation in our country right now made me feel horrified that I got stopped and asked to get out of the car, but the positive spin is that he really was just a nice officer checking to see if I was OK," Cruver explains. "The sad piece is that I shouldn't have had to feel this scared."
