A teen in Michigan got everyone's sympathy by telling people that she was pregnant with triplets. The teen convinced her boyfriend, family, community and even strangers on the internet that she had three babies on the way.
Everyone was worried about the mother-to-be's well-being, and the girl got thousands in donations. Turns out the whole thing was a hoax.
Fakeababy.com is a novelty website that sells gags, but they claim they're not supposed to be for malicious use or to take advantage. One teen, however, used the website to stir up a huge deception.
With fake sonograms and belly pads, the 16-year-old managed to convince everyone that she was having not one baby, but three. Even the unnamed girl's boyfriend thought he was going to be a baby daddy of triplets.
His family wasn't happy about the fact that their teen son, Jordan, was going to be a father of three at such a young age, but they had accepted it and were willing to lend the young couple a hand. They wanted to do right by the babies.
The teen girl spread the word about her pregnancy, and even joined an online group for expectant mothers. The teen was enjoying the pampering and gifts.
Her family threw her a big baby shower, even having a cake made with the three names she had picked out. She acquired thousands of dollars’ worth of gifts, including gift cards from complete strangers who wanted to see her get off to a good start with her little ones.
Everyone was doting on the girl with the best of intentions to help her.
When she posted her sonogram image, however, people became suspicious. One woman realized that all the 'babies' in the image were in the same exact position, and she warned everyone that it was a doctored image that had the same fetus image stamped three times.
Someone else discovered the sonogram the girl was showing was a joke from Fakeababy.com and reported the teen.
It's not like the family wasn't getting suspicious. The teen wouldn't let anyone come to her doctor's appointments. She kept stalling on the birth, and ended up going into the tenth month of pregnancy.
She told everyone that she was going to have a C-section scheduled. The day before the C-section, however, the teen gave her family horrific news.
She said she'd miscarried that morning and that the three babies were all dead.
Her family were shocked and horrified and urged the girl to go to the hospital, but she wouldn't budge. Finally, authorities showed up to question the teen and she admitted that she'd been faking it for most of the time.
The teen did tell authorities that she had been pregnant with triplets, but miscarried in the early stages. No word on whether that has been confirmed.
"She didn't tell anybody she was scared and didn't know what to do. All donations she took are being returned," said the girl's brother.
As for Jordan, he can't help but be a bit relieved. "I was excited, don't get me wrong but I was scared," he said.
