Man Hides Wife's Dead Body In Freezer - Wanted To Collect Her Social Security

There are all kinds of weird stories that make the rounds on a daily basis, and many of them fall into specific categories. Criminals doing stupid things that lead to their capture seems to be a never-ending phenomenon, and some of their decisions are complete head scratchers. There’s also a ton of cases of random people behaving badly, and that has a plethora of subcategories. Among them are those that consume large quantities of alcohol and shake themselves vigorously before doing something unfathomable, as well as the non-violent domestic episodes that escalate to ridiculous proportions.

While all of those types of stories are serious attention getters, every once in awhile there’s a story that comes along that breaks the mold. This is one of those stories, as it draws on adjectives such as unbelievable, nauseating, incomprehensible and crazy. As the Daily Mail shares, a Florida man was determined to continue receiving benefits for his deceased wife, and he went to extraordinary lengths to make it happen.

Allan Dunn's wife, Margaret Dunn, passed away in 2002. The couple lived in a condo in a retirement community in Sun City, but it doesn’t appear that he rushed to alert the authorities to the fact that his wife had passed away. Looks like Allan was pretty concerned that his wife’s social security benefits would be drying up upon her death, so that led him to devise a plan so that the checks would continue rolling in.

Allan would stuff his wife’s body into the freezer. Yes, really. Remarkably, this was not discovered until after he passed away himself. The remaining time that he was alive without his wife, he was fraudulently collecting benefits on her behalf. As in a lot. His heirs would find themselves with another surprise upon his passing, besides the whole stuffing the wife in the freezer thing.

Turns out the government is not too keen on being ripped off, and they wanted their money back. As in all of it. Allan’s heirs were on the hook for it, and they were left with no choice but to sell the condo to try to make things right. As the Daily Mail points out, that didn’t add up to too much once all was said and done.

“After paying the back taxes, sales costs, and amounts owed to the condominium association, the remaining sales proceeds of $15,743.14 were paid to the United States,” the Mail reports.

That’s just a fraction of the $92,000 that Allan pilfered from the government, but at least the government got something back. As for Allan’s family, a whole lot more was taken from them beyond money. Exactly what must it be like to know that one of your relatives has been living with his dead wife in the freezer so that he could collect some money? We’ll lean towards that being incredibly traumatizing, and there’s no amount of money that will ever take that away. No word on whether the Dunn’s story was used as a selling point to help move the condo.
