Kim Kardashian Faces Backlash From Moms On Social Media - Improper Use Of Car Seat

If you live your life in the public eye, you can expect to have your every move and action analyzed. Whether that’s fair or not is open for debate, but the fact remains that it’s the way it is, and it won’t be changing anytime soon. As the Huffington Post shares, Kim Kardashian was reminded of that fact once again, and this time it had do with a decision involving her own child.

Kim shared an adorable photo of her 18-month-old son, Saint, who was sitting in his car seat. It appears as if mom and son were just out and about doing their thing in California when she shared the snap, but the innocent-looking pic still managed to spark some debate. Some users were quick to call out Kim on car seat safety, and they pointed out something she may have missed.

“He is so cute let’s protect this handsome boy by making sure [he] is rear facing,” shared one user.

“It’s illegal to have a child facing forward in California that is less than 2 years old. Please turn his car seat around, it’s not too late!” added another user.

“Look, I'm not trying to judge or anything. All moms aren't perfect and we all make mistakes. But clearly he isn't facing the right way. From mommy to mommy please rearface him until two,” chimed in another user.

As pediatric emergency physician Dennis Durbin points out, these users are on the right track.

“A rear-facing child safety seat does a better job of supporting the head, neck and spine of infants and toddlers in a crash, because it distributes the force of the collision over the entire body,” he told Parenting.com.

Of course, this being social media, the debate raged on with other users coming out in defense of Kim.

“Can this woman not post anything without being criticized? Mind you own business,” shared one commenter.

“I see the car seat police are on a mission! Typical putting their nose and opinion in when it wasn’t asked!” replied another commenter.

“What a handsome little boy just hanging out in his car seat going for a ride with Mommy. All you carseat revolutionaries he is plenty big to be sitting in a front facing car seat leave Mama Kim alone,” chimed in a third commenter.

For a real simple bottom line, California law states that children under the age of two should be secured in rear-facing car seats. Kim was in the wrong here, but we have a sneaking suspicion some users would find something to criticize her about anyway. As some commenters pointed out, she’s attacked for just about everything she shares, and it’s for something awfully silly more often than not.

This was not one of those silly situations, as accidents can happen in a heartbeat. Young children need to be secured properly to mitigate the risk as much as possible. There’s no wiggle room here, but we’ll assume Kim has learned her lesson after being embarrassed on social media.
