13-Year-Old Brings Crowd To Tears With Moving Performance Of Ballad For Dad

The popular reality television program ‘America’s Got Talent’ is renowned for uncovering and bring forth the unique, funny and heartbreaking backstories of individuals auditioning for the program. However, one 13-year-old girl, known as Evie Clair, had an exceptionally heart-wrenching story behind her audition song, a song and story that would bring the entire crowd and judges to tears.

The young teenager, from the small Arizona town of Florence, made a startling impression on the judges of ‘America’s Got Talent’ after she sang a beautiful ballad to her father, a man who is currently battling colon cancer.

The small-town girl told notoriously tough judge Simon Cowell the reason why she decided to audition for the program, saying: “Last year my dad was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer and they gave him a five percent chance to live and he still continued working and supporting our family. So tonight, I’m here to sing for him.”

The audience was stunned when the sweet young girl began to sing Christina Perri’s song “Arms”, immediately creating sniffling noses and teary eyes. Ms. Clair confessed prior to her performance that this was the song she would sing to her dad “to help him feel better and just to give him comfort and strength to continue fighting,” when he is having a rough day. Judge Simon Cowell told Ms. Clair that she was “unbelievably brave” before the judges gave the teary eyed girl a minute to compose herself and judge, Tyra Banks, offered her a glass of water. Ms. Clair’s father could be seen backstage, teary eyed and giving her a supportive thumbs up, while her mother silently motioned for her to “breathe.”

Ms. Clair’s performance took away the breath of every single person in the room, and even earned her a standing ovation from the judges. Mr. Cowell told Ms. Clair that she was “one of the ones [the judges] we’re going to remember,” before sending her through to the next level of the competition. Heidi Klum was also blown away by the young teen’s incredible voice, stating “I think you have a very beautiful voice and I can feel all of your feelings.” Furthermore, Ms. Clair even received attention from the artists of the song herself, Christina Perri. Ms. Perri tweeted that the audition was “so beautiful” before sharing it online.

Ms. Clair’s father works at one of the five prisons found in Florence, an incarceration-heavy town that doesn’t even have a grocery store. Mr. Clair’s commitment to supporting his family is what has made Ms. Clair so close to her father. If Ms. Clair manages to win America’s Got Talent, she will be the third youngest female to win the title.

Since her emotional performance, videos of Ms. Clair’s singing have taken the internet by storm. Just like on ‘America’s Got Talent’, the public response to Ms. Clair’s voice and her story, has been phenomenal. On her YouTube channel, Ms. Clair has posted a link to her father’s GoFundMe campaign, which is currently at $19,950 of $25,000.
