Writers Say that Avenger 4 Is "Different" And Will Surprise You - Spoilers Ahead

The shocking finale of 'Avengers: Infinity War' threw a lot of fans for a loop. The screenwriters say more twists are coming, but probably not the ones you think. In an interview with some very carefully chosen words, writers try to explain.

Warning-- major spoilers ahead!

'Infinity Wars' earned more than $640 million its opening weekend in the U.S., making it the new record holder. It wouldn't be surprising if the sequel, the yet untitled fourth installment in the series slated for release in Mau of 2019, draws an even bigger crowd.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely gave an exclusive interview to BuzzFeed and promise that more surprises are in store, but if you were hoping for a favorite character to come back from the dead, it is not likely to work out that way.

The writers acknowledged that the deaths of many key universe characters at the end of 'Infinity Wars' gave fans of gut punch. However, they felt they had to be true to the story that was emerging.

“This is the hero's journey for Thanos,” said McFeely. “By the end of the hero's journey, our main character, our protagonist — at least, in this case — gets what he wants.”

“We wanted that thing that happens at the end of that movie to have as much impact as possible,” said Markus.

“I just want to tell you it’s real, and the sooner you accept that, the sooner you will be able to move on to the next stage of grief,” he added.

'Avengers 4' was written and filmed at the same time as part two; the movies are inextricably intertwined, even though they are very different films. "We’re going to own these choices, and hopefully surprise and delight you and get you invested," promises McFeely.

“We broke your heart,” said Markus. “Now we're going to blow your mind!”
